Welcome
to the website of the Hanse Institute for Advanced Study (HWK - Institute for Advanced Study)
The HWK is a non-profit foundation, incorporated under German civil law by the German federal states of Lower Saxony and Bremen and by the City of Delmenhorst. Its primary objective is to augment the nationally and internationally recognised research potential of the universities and research institutions in the region, especially the Universities of Bremen and Oldenburg.
The HWK promotes disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration among highly qualified scholars and scientists, both at national and international levels. The institute appoints guest scholars (Fellows) from all over the world to stay at the HWK building to collaborate with the named research institutions of the region. In addition, the HWK conducts about 20 international scientific conferences per year.
The focus of the HWK is mainly on three research areas; Marine and Climate Research, Neurosciences and Cognitive Sciences, and Social Sciences. A fourth field of activity is the long-term research program entitled “Determinants of Human Behaviour” with emphasis on research into violence, transcultural universals, Psychotherapy and Neurobiology. On a limited scale the HWK also supports Materials Sciences.
With this Internet presence we would like to introduce the HWK in detail and to deliver an insight into our work.
